Teacher appreciation

May 8th was teacher appreciation day this year.  The principal at my school (my day job is teaching math to middle-schoolers) found out that I bake and asked if I could make apple shaped cookies for her to give out to all of the teachers and support staff.  Well, OF COURSE I can!

I  made 80 apples... that's A LOT of cookies I found out.  It was fun though, and everyone liked them!  Don't forget to appreciate your teachers!

The Cherry Blossom

Back in May, I had the privileged of making a wedding cake for Susan and Will who got married on the Cherry Blossom river boat in Old Town Alexandria.  What a unique venue!

Susan and Will needed the largest cake I have made thus far.  The tiers were 8", 10", 12" and 14" squares.  Their main wedding color is what I made a mental note to be "light Tiffany's blue" and the ribbon I bought perfectly matched their table covers when we got there to deliver the cake... awesome!

Back in Business!

I have been a bit of a slacker with my baking and blogging in the past few months.  I was on somewhat of a hiatus during what became a high-risk pregnancy, and some NICU time for our son.  Now everyone is happy, healthy, and ready for cupcakes!

Growing!

The Shy Cookie has its first advertisement, and it's with a local blog called "Real Housewives of Northern Virginia"!  Just on the first day we got 5 new Facebook "likes" and a wedding cake inquiry!  VERY exciting :)

I also decided to get with the times and started a twitter account.  You can follow it by clicking below...

FEATURED on "CheapCookieCutters.com"!

I buy all of my crazy and unique cookie cutters on www.cheapcookiecutters.com; I love them!  I shared my hair dryer and brush cookies with them, and they decided to post my picture on their website where you buy the cutter so other buyers can see what a finished product will look like!  Very cool!

Hair Salon cookies

My very awesome friend, Brandie, is in cosmetology school in Ohio so when I saw these cookie cutters I immediately thought of her and had to make them!  I also shipped them to her so we can see how well these guys survive USPS so I can do online orders and Etsy!

New Year Day Wedding

I made my first wedding cake for a complete stranger on January 1st!  I met with her for a tasting a few months ago and she picked white cake and red velvet with strawberry filling in every tier.  She liked the cake I made for Megan and Chris but wanted red ribbon and hearts.  She was there when we delivered it and loved the way it turned out.  I hope when she gets back from her honeymoon, we can get some pics of the cake in action!
